QUEST Families,
I hope this email finds you happy, healthy, and enjoying the
warmer (kind of) month of May. Our learning community is in the final weeks of
school, and things are humming at full-speed as we make the final push toward
summer. Below are some business items that will support a smooth end of the
year, while also helping us plan for next school year.
Placement
The QUEST staff uses a multi-layered approach to placement.
We start by placing family history, when possible, and from there teams work
together to create balanced classes that support all students. Within this, we
also utilize special area staff and our service providers to ensure that we
have reached our goal and created balanced classrooms.
When placement begins, the main office sometimes receives requests
for particular teachers. Please know that we are unable to honor requests for a
specific teacher, but we continue to rely on our process to ensure we have
created appropriate, and balanced, classes. Once we reach this balance, we then
begin the process of communicating out the assigned teachers to each family.
This part of the process usually occurs in June.
End of Year Celebrations
COVID has made us think and rethink our end of year
celebrations, and the extra layer of protocols make certain events a bit
tricky. As we move into June, we will still continue with typical June events,
but “how” we do the event is likely to change. The following events are
currently in the planning stages:
·
June 4th
is Science Fun Day. Students will be moving throughout the day as a class,
taking part in lots of fun science!
·
June 10th
is Field Day. Students will get outside and will rotate as a class to safe, but
fun, physical activities.
·
Graduation—a
separate email that outlines our graduation this year will be sent out to grade
six families in the near future. Be on the lookout if you fall into this
category.
Welcome to Mrs. Allen
Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Melissa Allen, admin. intern, who is working alongside me for the remaining months. Mrs. Allen joins us from Albany, New York and is a student at SUNY Brockport.
The staff had an awesome staff appreciation week last week
thanks to all of you. I heard from many staff members who expressed that they
felt appreciated, and I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to
celebrate our one-in-a-million team at QUEST. We are all on this journey
together!
Respectfully,
Derek Warren
