Principal Update for May

Families,

As of this writing, there are just about six weeks left in this school year. Where does the time go? As the weather warms and we inch closer toward summer, our school is continuing to ensure each day is meaningful and filled with opportunities for academic growth. Thank you for sending us students that show up ready to go each day.

THANK YOU TEACHERS AND STAFF

Each day, I am humbled and amazed by the selfless work our teachers and staff do on behalf of our students. This is not an easy time to be an educator, but the staff at QUEST show up and continue to do right by kids.

Please join me in thanking them this week!

Budget Vote

Next Tuesday is the budget vote. If you haven't already done so, please feel free to view the information located on the district website by clicking here.

Volunteers Needed

The Wall Street Journal recently published an article that was based on a recent survey that showed how American values have changed over time, and one of those values listed as being in decline was giving back to ones community: volunteerism.

Life is so busy for the average family, and making time for volunteering can be quite tricky. Since 2020, many local organizations have seen a decline in volunteerism; much of this volunteerism is essential to being able to offer a given service. At QUEST, we too have seen a decline in volunteerism.

Our school thrives because of volunteers. For the 2023 school year, please consider how you might give a little time in support of events that our PTSO organizes. When we have many that step up, it makes for a lighter amount of work for all. Would you be interested in supporting a school event? Helping us to fund raise? If you are open to helping out a bit, please stay on the lookout for opportunities to support our school.

As we start to shift the focus to 2023-2024,  more information about volunteer opportunities will be forthcoming. I would encourage you to be on the lookout!

Placement Update

As mentioned in our April blog post, placement season is upon us. We are currently just about done with placement and will be prepping the mailing for families for the first week of June. From there, we will hold a moving up day on June 16th. For those new to QUEST, moving up day is where the students head to their new teacher to meet their new classmates.

School Supplies for 2023-2024

Our district will be providing all students with their school supplies once again. You may notice teachers asking for you to send in things like headphones, however, your child will have all of their supplies ready to go by the first day of school.

We do not provide bookbags or lunch boxes, however, if your family is in financial need and would benefit from these items, please reach out to our school counselor, Valerie Pond.

The next time I write for our blog it will be a closing message. It is just incredible how quickly the time goes, all the more reason to do all we can to live in the moment and to savor this precious time we have with our kids. Thanks for constantly being our partner in education.

Respectfully,

Derek Warren

Student Council Update

The Ride for Missing Children!

QUEST is “gearing” up to support the Ride for Missing Children (RFMC) on Friday, June 9th. This is a very exciting event! Nearly 100 riders will pedal 100 miles, two-by-two, with police escort from the Monroe County Sheriff and other departments, passing through many communities along the way. There is also a 50 mile option available.

The RFMC is an awareness and fundraising event for the Rochester office of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, NY (NCMEC/NY). Riders commit to meet fundraising goals, to train, and to ride. The goal is to honor and bring awareness to the plight of missing children and to help support the NCMEC/NY prevention education efforts which serves schools, including our own, in the Greater Rochester area.

One hundred miles is a long way to go and the riders are going to need encouragement. That’s why we are proud to be selected to cheer on the riders. Students and staff will make their way outside to greet the riders as they arrive at our school. For QUEST, they will simply drive through our bus loop mid-day.

For the students, this is a high energy event. They will be led by NCMEC/NY staff and volunteers in cheering on the riders as they arrive and depart. In between there will be music that will reinforce safety messages. Much thanks to the entire school community for supporting this worthy cause. To learn more about the event or to register to ride please visit: www.therideformissingchildren.com/rochester.
