Principal Update

 QUEST Families,

I'm writing my monthly post while the weather outside my window is above 50 degrees, a great reminder that spring is right around the corner. As we enter the third marking period, QUEST is busy preparing for many end-of-the-year events. Please take a moment to browse the blog, and please feel free to reach out should you have any questions.

Report Cards

The second marking period report cards are out and you are able to access them through the Campus Backback. We appreciate you taking the time to talk through the report card with your child, but more than that we also appreciate the sharing the occurs through Portfolio Share. Our goal at QUEST is to push our students to be agents of their own learning, and our approaches are aligned with that philosophy.

Placement

In late April we will begin the placement process at QUEST. In order to create balanced classrooms, we collaborate as a school, ensuring that each student has their needs met through placement. Although we try our best, when possible, to honor family history, QUEST does not take requests for a specific teacher. If you would like to submit feedback regarding the type of teacher your child might need, or you do not want to follow family history (if your family has family history), please feel free to reach out.

State Testing

On March 29th and 30th grades 3-6 will take the New York State English Language Arts tests. Taking tests is a natural part of the schooling process, and our goal is simple: each student should try their best. As a school community, we use the results to make informed decisions about how best to support each child, but we always keep in mind that the results are only one data point. What we do and see on a day-in, day-out basis is equally important when making instructional decisions.

Thank you for sending us such awesome students. I continue to feel very proud to be part of this learning community, and it takes all of us to give QUEST kids the school they deserve. Thank you for being our partners.

Yours in education,

Derek Warren

Principal
