Dear Parents and Guardians:
On Aug. 31, 2020, the federal government announced free breakfast and lunch for all students in all school districts across the country until June 30, 2021.
Normally in late summer, families are submitting free and
reduced price meal applications before the Oct. 17 deadline to
ensure that their children receive the benefits through the following October
after the new school year begins.
We are asking families to continue to submit free and
reduced price meal applications to Hilton Food Service Department even though
meals are free for all students through the remainder of the 2020-21 school
year. The applications are needed for the following reasons:
- Students who request fee waivers for AP exams or
college applications, for example, will not qualify for the fee waiver if
they do not have a current application on file.
- If the federal government releases a new batch of P-EBT
Food Benefit Cards to families during the pandemic, like those
released over the summer, families may not qualify if there is not a
current application on file.
- A current application will allow students to be
temporarily eligible for the first 30 operational days of the next school
year. This will buy families time to submit a new application for
next year once the reapplication process begins over the summer.
The
Free and Reduced Meal Application can be found in this year’s district calendar
or by visiting Hilton.k12.ny.us/freemeals. If you have questions, you can reach
me at 392-1000, ext. 2152 or my assistant, Donna Ziegler, at 392-1000, ext. 2151.
Sincerely,
Scott
Ziobrowski
Director of Food Services
